Kolkata: Security beefed up ahead of Ram Navami celebrations across the state.
Commissioner of Kolkata police Manoj Verma said that the police have taken necessary steps to curb any untoward incident during the Ram Navami celebrations.
“Everyone should cooperate with each other in order to smooth celebration of the festival. All senior police officials will be on the road,” said Verma.
According to police sources, more than 5,000 police personnel will be on the roads. All senior officers of the rank of joint CP and additional CP (15) will be in the field. Around 30-plus DCP-level officers will be deployed.

While Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari stated that more than one crore people will celebrate Ram Navami, BJP state president and MOS Sukanta Majumdar mentioned that all Hindus will be on the road.
“The Hindus have united and everyone will be on the road. If anyone wants to stop the Hindus then we will see what we do next,” said Majumdar.
BJP MLA Sreerupa Mitra Chowdhury, apprehending terrorist attack on the Ram Navami processions have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and also to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul also urged that the Hindus should not fall into any trap and create untoward incidents.
“Almost 26000 people have lost their jobs. Now, Mamata Banerjee in order to divert attention will purposely do something untoward in Ram Navami celebrations,” said Agnimitra.
In Sankrail processions with weapons were taken out and the Hindus claimed that it is their ‘tradition’.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh stated, “Whatever is there in BJP leaders mind they are trying to put it on the TMC. Durga Puja, Kali Puja is celebrated smoothly. Why will there be tension during Ram Navami celebrations?”
