New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board is opposing the Waqf Bill, while on the other hand Ajmer Sharif has announced to support the bill. Not only this, it has also been described as a very important step towards improvement. Nasruddin Chishti, president of the All India Sufi Sajjadanshin Parishad and head of Ajmer Sharif Dargah, has said that the Waqf Board is very important for the reform of Muslim society, but its administration has many shortcomings and no transparency.
Chishti said that there are many pending issues that damage Waqf, which have been included in the bill. These improvements are very important for Waqf as well as the Muslim community. It is particularly important to stop the misuse of Waqf property. There are some members that are preventing the increase in the value of Waqf properties. Chishti also cited the 2006 Sachar Committee report and claimed that the Waqf properties could have an income of Rs 12,000 crore per year. However, in reality this amount should be more than 20 thousand crores. I hope that the improvement in the board through the Waqf Bill will bring transparency and protect Waqf properties. The fare will increase, which will benefit the people of the society. The claim that this bill is interfering in Sharia, it is false because the case of Waqf is different from Sharia.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also supported Chishti’s views and said that people are being misled about the Waqf Bill. The Waqf Bill includes issues that were pending for years. At the same time, the Union Minister had indicated that the Waqf Amendment Bill will be introduced in Parliament in the current session in April. He also claimed that everyone knows that those who are opposing the Waqf Bill are occupying land worth crores of rupees. If the Waqf Board declares a land as its property, then it should be calculated. We just have to bring transparency in the Waqf Board. We are also getting support from the Muslim community.
