Bijapur: The joint security forces teams have dismantled a hi-tech Naxal training camp on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, once utilized by the notorious Hidma-Deva battalion. They have gained control of Bhattiguda, a crucial hideout for Naxalites, where they destroyed a prominent memorial and training facility linked to Naxalite central committee member Sudarshan.
Sources indicate that the camp was a training ground for Naxalite commanders Hidma and Deva, along with new recruits. In ongoing anti-Maoist operations in the Bastar division, security forces have penetrated core Naxalite areas, including their safest hideouts near the Telangana border.
Cobra Battalion troops discovered the permanent training camp in Bhattiguda on Wednesday, which contained a large concrete memorial for Sudarshan and several huts used by Naxals for their activities. The camp spanned one to one and a half acres. The Naxalites fled upon the forces’ arrival, allowing for the destruction of the memorial and training facility.
This represents a significant victory for security forces in a region that was once a Naxalite stronghold, where they have now established their own camp. The first battalion, formerly led by Hidma, is now commanded by Deva, with around 250 to 300 armed Naxalites remaining, down from approximately 400.
The camp focused on guerrilla training, teaching ambush tactics, explosive planting, and evasion techniques. As security forces effectively infiltrate Naxalite safe havens, the group is forced to seek new hiding places. Security agencies and the government see these discoveries as signs of the decaying away of Maoist movements as well as their strongholds.
