Around 20 days after the Kharghar based IT professional was killed in a road rage, the second alleged accused- Faizan Shaikh (22)- who had allegedly hit the victim with his helmet, has been arrested. Faizan had been in hiding after the incident and was finally arrested from Bandra in the wee hours of Sunday.

Unit III of Navi Mumbai crime branch lead by Inspector Hanif Mulani had nabbed Faizan. Crime branch along with Kharghar police had been trying to trace Faizan and his friend Rehan Shaikh (22) since the incident was reported. Rehan was finally nabbed on February 10 from BKC and Faizan who was with him, has given a slip to the police then.

Faizan Shaikh was handed over to Kharghar police after his arrest and was produced before the holiday court at Panvel and has been remanded to police custody till February 28. While, Rehan Shaikh is currently under judicial custody.

On February 3, IT Professional Shivkumar Roshanlal Sharma (45), was killed at around 8.30 pm following a fight over overtaking. Sharma along with the accused stopped between Belpada and Utsav Chowk and started arguing which led to a fight in the course of which Sharma allegedly assaulted one of the accused following which Faizan Shaikh took his helmet and hit Sharma on his head, multiple times, a crime branch official privy to the investigations, had confirmed. Sharma collapsed after he drove 1 km to Kharghar police station and reported the assault.

The next day, after the videos and news of Sharma’s death went viral, both the accused learnt of the death of the person whom they assaulted and then went into hiding.

FPJ Campaign

An online campaign was launched by the FPJ to help the police trace the accused, requesting people with any information about their whereabouts to contact the authorities.
