Overheard In Bhopal: Seat-Change Story, Delhi Is Far, Officer’s Trouble & More! | FP Photo
Seat-change story
Everyone has seen how Bade Sahib’s seating arrangement in the cabinet was changed. But few know the story behind it. Getting a seat in the front row in a cabinet meeting was hardly an easy task for the Sahib. The head of the state had to be convinced of it. And he was told that the position of the Chief Secretary (CS) is equal to that of a cabinet secretary. The role of a CS is similar to that of a cabinet secretary in the Union Government, but the argument of the head of the state was clear. The ministers and the legislators sit in two different galleries in the Vidhan Sabha, and the officers’ gallery is located in another place. In the cabinet, there should be the same seating arrangements for the legislators and the executives. Nevertheless, after a discussion, it was agreed that the CS would sit in the front row, but not on a par with the head of the state. This was the reason why a middle path was chosen, and the chair of the CS was kept in a place that lies between the galleries where the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues sit. Now, there are whispers that as Big Ma’am was not lucky enough, she had to sit in the back row as long as she was the CS. She was allowed to sit in the front row only once.
Unexpected name
Traps laid for one person often entangle another. This is what exactly happened in the raids carried out by I-T Department sleuths. The IAS officer, whose name figured in the documents seized during the raids by I-T sleuths, was unexpected to anyone. He is holding an important position. Although there are no direct links between those on whose residential premises the raids were carried out and the IAS officer concerned, incriminating documents found during the search alluded to his name. The evidence found during the search adverts to certain monetary transactions among some important people. The documents also allude to the names of a few IPS officers and the IAS officer concerned. To confirm the case, the I-T Department may serve notices on these people before making any assessment. The IAS officer concerned is scared of thinking that if he gets a notice, his problems may increase, so he has started damage-control exercises.
Don’t care!
The maxim – Nero fiddled while Rome burned – is applicable to an officer holding an important position in the state capital. He barely bothers about what is going on in Bhopal. The Sahib even stays away from office, and whenever he comes, he is there only for a while, but where he remains for the rest of the time is not known to his subordinates. He is quite enjoying his life. There are reports that after taking over the important position, he has not done any work that he can talk about. He is not on good terms either with his colleagues or with the public representatives. Because he is not keen on maintaining good relations with anyone, he sends a subordinate as his representative to most of the meetings. The Sahib’s relatives helped him get the position he is now holding, but his inefficiency manifests in everything he does.
Delhi is far
Many officers from the state have joined the Central Government on deputation, and a few are planning to step into the boots of their colleagues. But for a secretary-rank IAS officer, who intends to join any department of the Central Government on deputation, Delhi is very far. Once, after submitting an application for going to Delhi, he got an NOC from the state government. He then sent an application for deputation, but because he did not get posting in the Central Government, he remained in the state, and was sent to the loop line. As he is posted in the loop line, he cannot pay attention to work, and he again plans to go to Delhi. This time, he feels his chances of going to the national capital are bright.
Officer’s trouble
A promoted IAS officer, who has made a lot of money through offstage deals, is in trouble these days. Through a businessman, the Sahib has invested the carrots which he now wants to get back. But the businessman’s attitude towards the officer has changed. The businessman appropriated a huge amount that the Sahib had invested through him. The person concerned is not ready to give any account of the money that the Sahib gave him. The officer’s threat had no impact on the businessman. The bureaucrat, in trouble because of the businessman, wants to clear the accounts before retirement. Otherwise, it will be difficult for him to take back a single penny from that person. Because the money which the officer invested was made through backhand deals, he cannot discuss his problems with anyone. Fearing that he may not get back a single penny, the officer does not want to spoil his relationship with the businessman. Now, the Sahib is finding ways to get out of this mess.
In shock
The posting of an IPS officer to an important position has shocked his two colleagues whose names were discussed for it. Both were working hard to get the position. One of them was even ready to spend a huge amount to achieve the goal. The officer, considered an expert in manipulating any situation, thought he would hit the target, but because the higher ups set aside his name at the eleventh hour, the Sahib was sad. The name of another IPS officer was being discussed for the post, and he was also hopeful of getting it, but he was also unhappy after the position went out of his hand. Now, many IPS officers are out to find how their colleague got the posting. They are curious to know how this happened, although the name of that officer was never discussed for the post. All eyes are set on the department after the posting of this officer who was loyal to the Congress government.
