Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): Punasa SDM Shivam Prajapati has intensified action against illegal tent city and establishments set up along the banks of Narmada in Hanuwantiya town.

This comes in light of New Year celebrations that were organised by private event companies to attract tourists to the area.

Tourists have expressed their frustration as the highly anticipated Jal Mahotsav didn’t take place this year. Despite this, operators were attempting to establish a private tent city and cottages around the island to draw visitors.

However, these setups were constructed on government land without the necessary permissions. Reports indicated that liquor parties were also going on in these accommodations which were against rules and regulations. Upon receiving complaints from locals, SDM, accompanied by tehsildar and police officials, inspected the area. Their findings confirmed that the tent city and cottages were indeed built unlawfully.

In response, SDM issued strict orders to dismantle the illegal structures and halted any ongoing construction efforts. For the past 5 to 6 years, tent city near island have been a popular destination for tourists during the New Year festivities.

These events not only drew significant crowds but also generated substantial revenue through various package deals. SDM Prajapati stated, “The tent city which was set up without permission has been removed. This type of action will continue in the future as well.” Notably, Hanuwantiya is recognized as a water and adventure vacation destination.
