IndiGo Delhi-Srinagar Flight Makes Emergency Landing. | X
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), May 21: A terrifying video has hit the internet in which the passengers experienced a near death experience mid-air on IndiGo Delhi-Srinagar flight. The flight suffered damage as it was hit by hailstorm. The video shows the passengers screaming in panic as they experience severe turbulence mid-air. They can be seen praying for their lives as the flight shakes up and down due to the bad climate. There are reports that there were around 227 passengers and crew members onboard the flight. The pilot’s courage and presence of mind saved the lives of all the passengers.
There are reports that the pilot declared emergency on the flight as the aircraft encountered severe hailstorm mid-air. The terrifying moment in the aircraft was captured on camera by a passenger and the video went viral. The incident occurred on IndiGo flight 6E2142 travelling from Delhi to Srinagar.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday (May 21) and the flight made a safe landing at the Srinagar Airport (SXR) at around 6.30 PM. The incident was shared by the passengers online, thanking the pilot and the flight crew for saving their lives. Their timely and skilled response helped in the safe landing of the aircraft.
Narrow Escape For Passengers
The flight carrying 227 passengers and crew members onboard took off from Delhi Airport as scheduled. However, the aircraft flew into a violent storm system which resulted in intense turbulence. According to the passengers of the aircraft, the plane shook heavily mid-air. The overhead luggage bins also opened and the luggage fell on some of the passengers. There were moments of complete panic for the passengers. They will never forget this near death experience in their entire life.
One passenger shared the experience on social media and said, “I had a narrow escape while flying from Delhi to Srinagar. Hats off to the captain for the safe landing. Special mention to REMITA cabin crew for staying calm and professional.”
Realising the seriousness of the weather conditions, the pilot contacted Srinagar Air Traffic Control (ATC) and declared an emergency. The aircraft was then cleared for priority landing. Despite the poor visibility and high winds, the pilot successfully landed the aircraft. His heroics is drawing praise from passengers and aviation officials. Social media users are also praising the pilot.
Aircraft Sustains Damage
While the passengers present on the flight remain unharmed, the aircraft suffered external damage. The nose cone of the aircraft was hit hard by the hail during the storm. There are reports that the aircraft hs been declared AOG (Aircraft on Ground). The aircraft will not be operational till full inspection and repairs are completed.
