New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched a high-precision airstrike on terrorist camps located in Pakistan. This strategic military operation has been named ‘Operation Sindoor’. According to reports, multiple terrorist hideouts were targeted, resulting in the deaths of several militants.
Use of Rafale and Sukhoi Fighter Jets
The operation was executed using advanced fighter aircraft, including Rafale and Sukhoi-30MKI jets. These aircraft deployed HAMMER bombs and Scalp cruise missiles, both known for their high accuracy and destructive capabilities.
What is the Scalp Missile?
The Scalp missile is a long-range air-to-surface cruise missile jointly developed by France and the UK. It is designed to destroy high-value enemy targets even in densely populated areas, thanks to its precision guidance system.
Weight: Approximately 1,300 kg
Warhead: Carries 450 kg of conventional explosives
Range: Around 250 km
Speed: About 0.8 Mach
Guidance: Uses GPS, navigation systems, and infrared terminal homing
Flying at low altitudes to avoid enemy radar, this missile homes in on its target with deadly accuracy.
What is the Cost?
Each Scalp missile costs around USD 1 million, which is approximately Rs 8.46 crore. Along with Rafale jets, India also acquired Scalp and Meteor missiles from France. These weapons have significantly enhanced India’s capability to strike deep into enemy territory.
