Television actress Reem Shaikh, currently seen on Laughter Chefs season 2, opened up about her troubled childhood, her parents’ divorce, and her relationship with her father, Sameer Shaikh, revealing that they separated four years ago. She recently made some shocking revelations about her parents’ divorce.
Appearing on Nayandeep Rakshit’s podcast, Reem shared that she always called herself a Taare Zameen Par child, as she was very shy. For several years, people in the entertainment industry assumed that she was arrogant, but in reality, she struggled with speaking to people due to a lack of confidence. She even shared that she couldn’t give a speech when she would receive an award, owing to the difficult situation at home.
“A lot of it has to do with what I felt at home. I have seen extreme violence. When your home is loud and angry, you don’t know where to find your corner. You become that child who is scared and quiet. For me, just speaking to anyone took so much courage. It’s been such a fight,” added the 22-year-old actress.
Further, Reem stated that her parents’ separation made her realise what had actually happened and the reality of the situation. She said that, overnight, she became an adult.
She added, “I would witness loud noises, angry people, angry faces and that aggressive energy. As a child, it was all about energy and I had adapted to a lot of it. I started having that I had anger in me and that whole aggression, because mahol hi waise dekha tha.”
Talking about her relationship with her father, Sameer, Reem stated that she had a lot of ups and downs with him.
“There was a time I was so close to him, but my equation hasn’t changed because of the divorce; it has changed because of us and the distance. He probably didn’t understand what I was doing and why. Maybe he wasn’t mature enough to realise I was also going through tough times. It has changed, but there is a lot of acceptance. These five years, I suddenly grew up,” added Reem.
