Navi Mumbai: A Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Sanpada on the Sion-Panvel Highway suffered significant damage after being hit by a speeding dumper, making it unsafe for public use. In response, the Public Works Department (PWD) has scheduled urgent repair work on Thursday, March 6, from 11 pm to 6 am, during which traffic diversions will be in place.
The incident occurred on February 8 at around 3 AM when a dumper traveling from Vashi towards Belapur lost control and crashed into the FOB. The vehicle’s rear section became stuck in the middle of the bridge. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and Turbhe Traffic Police promptly arrived at the scene to remove the vehicle. +
However, a subsequent inspection by the PWD revealed severe structural damage, including a bent steel framework and broken railings, prompting the temporary closure of the bridge for pedestrian safety.
To carry out the necessary repairs, the PWD has planned a traffic block on March 6 from 11 pm to 6 am. Given the potential for congestion on the Sion-Panvel Highway, the department has requested the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police to implement traffic diversions.
“As part of these measures, vehicles traveling from Vashi towards Panvel will be rerouted via Palm Beach Road to ease traffic flow. We urge commuters to plan their travel accordingly and use alternate routes during the repair period,” said a police officer from Navi Mumbai traffic department.
