Sealdah Court has given a big verdict in the case of brutality against a female doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The court has declared the accused Sanjay Roy guilty. The sentence will be pronounced on Monday. The court said that a case has been registered against the accused under sections 64, 66, 103/1 of BNS. There is a complaint against the accused that after doing RG, he went to the Medical College and Hospital and went to the seminar room and assaulted a female doctor and killed her.
Meanwhile, accused Sanjay told the judge that he is not guilty. I have been implicated in a false case. I did not do that. Those who have done this are being released. On the night of 8-9 August 2024, the female doctor was raped and murdered. Today the victim got justice. The verdict has been pronounced about 162 days after this incident that took place in the month of August 2024.
The hearing of this case lasted for 57 days. Earlier this case was being investigated by Kolkata Police. Then after the intervention of the High Court, the case was handed over to CBI. CBI took over the investigation of the case on August 13 and started the investigation thereafter. CBI recorded statements of more than 120 witnesses. In this case the camera trial lasted for about two months. Apart from the LVA, the CBI lawyer also presented biological evidence like DNA samples, viscera etc. to prove Sanjay Roy guilty of the incident.
CBI claimed that the victim struggled for a long time to save herself during the rape and murder. The report revealed that in this he inflicted five wounds on Sanjay Roy’s body. It has been claimed that saliva samples and DNA samples on the victim’s body match Sanjay Roy. CBI lawyer has described this incident as crossing the limits of inhumanity.
During the investigation, a report submitted by a multi-institutional medical board also confirmed that the victim died due to manual strangulation. When the trainee doctor tried to save himself, his spectacles broke. The brutality inflicted on the victim was so terrible that she was bleeding continuously from her eyes, mouth and private parts. Injuries were found on the victim’s neck and lips.
The Supreme Court itself took cognizance of the incident and expressed concern over the safety of doctors in the country, following which a national task force was formed to address the lack of safety of doctors across the country.
