A month after the Mahayuti alliance formed government in Maharashtra under the leadership of BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut has alleged that the state government has delayed the Ladki Bahini Yojana scheme.

The scheme, which was one of the key promises during the Maharashtra Assembly election made by the Mahayuti alliance, is attributed as one of the key factors that helped the BJP-led alliance retain power in the state.

Speaking to media on Friday, Raut claimed that the Ladki Bahini Yojana scheme has been delayed.

“The Mahayuti government is struggling to give 1,500 rupees to the women. That (giving 2,100 rupees to women under the scheme) was a fake election promise. They (Mahayuti parties) bought the women’s votes for 1,500 rupees. They will stop it (the scheme) now. They will resume it before the next elections,” he said.

The Ladki Bahini Yojana scheme, the flagship scheme of the Mahayuti alliance, promised to provide 2,100 rupees per month to the women of the state.

However, after coming to power, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took stock of the state’s finances. After review, he found it difficult to fulfill the poll promise as of now.

Earlier, it was reported that the Maharashtra government is now finding it untenable to sustain the promised Rs 2,100 monthly payout under the Ladki Bahin scheme, hence it is mulling over “tweaking” the scheme.

Speaking on the ongoing row over the fate on INDIA Alliance, he said, I agree with what Omar Abdullah ji said. We fought the Lok Sabha elections together and got a good result. After that, it was our responsibility, especially the Congress party, the largest party in our alliance, to keep the INDIA alliance alive. We needed to sit together again to decide what to do in the country, which path to take, and to provide guidance and discuss. However, till now, no such meeting has taken place after the Lok Sabha elections. This is not good for the INDIA alliance. I heard Tejashwi Yadav ji, Akhilesh Yadav ji, Kejriwal ji, Omar Abdullah ji, and Mamata Banerjee, all saying that the INDIA alliance has lost its relevance. If such sentiment arises among the people, the responsibility lies with the largest party in the alliance”
