New revelations have emerged in the investigation of the violence that took place on November 24 in the Shahi Jama Masjid of Sambhal. According to intelligence inputs, this violence may be linked to terrorist activities. Police and security agencies are now deeply investigating the possible connections of ISI and Al Qaeda.

Connections to terrorist organizations?

The Intelligence Department has expressed apprehension that ISI and Al Qaeda members living in Deepa Sarai and Nakhasa areas of Sambhal may have supplied weapons and funding for this violence.

Main suspects:

  • Shariq Satha:
    • A resident of Sambhal, who has been described as a member of terrorist Dawood’s gang.
    • Shariq has more than 50 vehicle theft and robbery cases registered against him in Delhi, NCR, Uttarakhand and other states.
    • After being released from jail, Shariq fled to Dubai using a fake passport and got involved in the business of fake currency notes.
    • Police suspect that Shariq had supplied funding and weapons for the violence.

Other suspects named in police investigation

Five suspects identified:

Police have identified five more terrorists, who are related to Sambhal. Two of these names are prominent:

  1. Shahid Akhtar:
    • Currently active in Afghanistan.
    • Fighter of terrorist organization Al Qaeda.
  2. Osman Hussain:
    • In 1999, he went to Pakistan and took training in the terrorist organization Harkat-ul-Mujahideen.
    • In contact with terrorists of Sambhal since leaving India in 2012.

Other suspects:

  • Sharjeel Akhtar:
    • Absconding since 2012.
    • Currently an active terrorist of Al Qaeda.
  • Mohammad Asif and Zafar Mahmood:
    • Resident of Deepa Sarai, Sambhal.
    • He has already been accused of being associated with Al Qaeda.

Suspicious objects found after violence

During FSL investigation, cartridges made in Pakistani and American ordinance factories were recovered from the violence site.

  • The presence of these cartridges has forced the police to suspect that the youth of Sambhal, who have become terrorists in Pakistan and Afghanistan, may have sent these weapons for use in violence.

action taken so far

  • Police have so far arrested 51 people and sent them to jail in connection with the violence.
  • The intelligence department and SIT are investigating from every possible angle.

“The investigation has been intensified based on intelligence inputs. The focus is on the role of Shariq Satha and five other suspects in the violence. The police are closely investigating their activities, location and supply of weapons. The truth will be brought out soon.”
