Sikandar, starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, has failed to perform on all fronts. Neither has it managed to impress fans and critics, nor has it been able to rake in decent figures at the box office. The film’s daily box office collection dropped to single digits on its fourth day itself, and it has to be one of Salman’s weakest films till date in terms of numbers.
On Wednesday, Sikandar had just a mere 12 per cent occupancy in theatres across the country, and with that, it could only earn Rs 9.75 crore on its fourth day. The film opened much below expectations with Rs 26 crore, and after seeing a slight uptick on Day 2 with Rs 29 crore, it tanked by more than 30 per cent on the third day with Rs 19.50 crore.
The total box office collection of Sikandar now stands at Rs 84.25 crore. During the trailer launch of Sikandar, Salman had claimed that it will be a cakewalk for the film to earn Rs 200 crore at the box office, but the claim now seems to be just a far-fetched dream.
Sikandar marks Salman’s return to the silver screen in a massy avatar after almost 1.5 years, and fans were genuinely excited for the film. And while people did throng the theatres on its first day (March 30), they were seen leaving disappointed and let down.
Fans and critics both called Sikandar a lacklustre film with weak plot and storyline and no efforts on the acting front by Salman and the other stars. Besides Salman, the film features Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, Sharman Joshi, Prateik Babbar, and others in key roles.
It is to be noted that Sikandar has been helmed by director AR Murugadoss, who gave Bollywood its first-ever Rs 100 crore film back in 2008 — Ghajini.
Makers have partially put the blame of Sikandar’s poor box office performance on the major leak that happened a day before the film’s release. The film fell prey to piracy and the makers had to remove the pirated version from over 300 websites overnight before the film officially hit the silver screens.
Salman is yet to react to Sikandar’s poor reviews and dismal box office performance.
