In Hindu religion, the fast of Sakat Chauth is observed on the Chaturthi date of Krishna Paksha of Magh month. This year Sakat Chauth fast is on 17 January 2025. Lord Ganesha and Sakat Mata are duly worshiped on this day. It is believed that due to the virtuous effect of this fast, the person gets the happiness and prosperity of children. There is also a tradition of offering Arghya to Moon God in the evening on this day. According to the scriptures, by following some rules during Sakat Chauth fast, Ganpati Bappa is pleased and the person gets the desired results. What to do on the day of Sakat Chauth:

  1. wake up early in the morning: On the day of Sakat Chauth, wake up before sunrise, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this worship Lord Shri Ganesh and Sakat Mata.
  2. pledge to fast: At the time of puja, take a pledge to fast by taking water in your hand.
  3. recite the fast: Sakat Chauth fast should be recited.
  4. offer to god: Offer sesame laddu and modak to Lord Ganesha.
  5. offer water to moon god: After moonrise in the evening, break the fast by offering Arghya to the Moon God.
  6. donate: Donate salt, ghee, warm clothes and things made of sesame on this day.
  7. take blessings: Do not forget to take blessings of elders.

What not to do on Sakat Chauth:

  1. don’t sleep in the morning: One should not sleep after sunrise.
  2. Do not eat food without bathing: One should not take food without taking bath.
  3. avoid lying: One should avoid lying on this day.
  4. don’t sleep during the day: One should not sleep during the day during Sakat Chauth fast.
  5. avoid arguments: Stay away from any kind of debate.
  6. Do not consume meat and alcohol: Meat and alcohol should not be consumed on this day.

Sakat Chauth puja auspicious time 2025: According to Drik Panchang, Chaturthi Tithi will start at 04:06 am on 17 January 2025 and will end at 05:30 am on 18 January 2025.

Moon time on Sakat Chauth: The time of moonrise on this day is 09:09 pm, although the time of moonrise may differ in different cities.
