Pushkar Dhami Sarkar of Uttarakhand has appointed Saira Bano as Deputy Chairman of Uttarakhand Women’s Commission. Saira Bano came into the limelight after filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court against triple divorce in 2016.

 

In February 2016, Saira Bano, a resident of Kashipur, approached the Supreme Court demanding a ban on triple talaq.

Saira Bano is a resident of Kashipur Narah in Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand. He fought a legal battle against triple talaq. The Supreme Court’s decision on triple talaq was in his favor.

In February 2016, Saira Bano, a resident of Kashipur, filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a ban on triple talaq. Saira married a man from Allahabad in 2002. Saira accused him of domestic violence. Saira’s husband sent him a divorce notice through Telegram.

Saira argued that triple talaq is a violation of fundamental rights provided under Articles 14 and 15 of the Constitution.

Saira Bano joined BJP. On joining the BJP, Saira Bano said that she has joined the party inspired by the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP. They will continue to struggle to provide justice to women. On 22 August 2017, the Supreme Court gave a historic verdict on the issue of triple talaq.
