Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan recently said in a podcast that he “apologised” to his son Taimur Ali Khan, after making him watch his 2023 film Adipurush, that had tanked miserably at the box office. While people thought that the actor was taking a dig at his own film, Saif has now issued a statement, clarifying that his words were misconstrued.

In a statement, Saif said, “I apologised to Tim for being the evil villain in the film. I was growling and smashing everyone in sight! He said next time you should play the hero.”

“I stand by all my films, and this one too,” Saif added.

It all began when during a chat with his Jewel Thief co-star Jaideep Ahlawat, Saif shared, “I showed him Adipurush recently. After a while, he started giving me a look. Then I said, ‘Yeah, sorry’. He said, ‘It’s okay’. He forgave me,” he said, leaving Jaideep in splits.

For those unversed, Adipurush was criticised for its portrayal of the Ramayana. Saif, who played the demon king Ravana in the film, was brutally trolled for his look and acting, and many people slammed the makers for Ravana’s caricaturish portrayal and odd dialogues.

The film was at the receiving end of severe backlash and several fringe groups also accused director Om Raut, and actors Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif of hurting and mocking religious sentiments with the film.

Being mounted on a budget of Rs 700 crore, Adipurush managed to earn around Rs 400 crore worldwide.
