Nashik: Sadhus & Mahants Clash Over Naming Of 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela | Sourced

The 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela is expected to face controversy once again, as differing opinions have emerged among sadhus and mahants regarding its organisation. The sadhus and mahants of Trimbakeshwar met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis when he came to Trimbakeshwar on Sunday. They had demanded that the promotion be made as Trimbakeshwar-Nashik Kumbh Mela instead of Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. However, the sadhus and mahants of Nashik objected to the demand of the sadhus and mahants of Trimbakeshwar.

In the backdrop of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited Trimbakeshwar on Sunday morning. First, he went to the Trimbakeshwar temple for darshan. This time, he wore a white robe and entered the sanctum sanctorum. He worshipped the first Jyotirlinga Trimbakeshwar Mahadev. After that, Sankalp Puja was performed in the assembly hall. After this, Fadnavis also discussed with the sadhus and mahants about the Simhastha. He heard the views of the sadhus and mahants.

At this time, the sadhus and mahants demanded that since Trimbakeshwar is the main place, the Kumbh Mela should be mentioned as Trimbakeshwar-Nashik, that Fadnavis himself should come here again in the future and inspect it in person and make plans, that lands in Trimbakeshwar should be taken if necessary and that the villagers who will bear the brunt should be rehabilitated by providing adequate compensation.

After the sadhus and mahants of Trimbakeshwar demanded to promote the Trimbakeshwar-Nashik Kumbh Mela, the sadhu-mahants of Nashik objected to it. On Monday, a meeting of the sadhus and mahants of Nashik was held with the Municipal Commissioner. In this meeting, the sadhu and mahants of Nashik demanded to promote the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela.

In this regard, Mahant Sudhirdas Pujari said that the name Nashik-Trimbakeshwar is correct. “Even before this, it was mentioned as Nashik-Trimbakeshwar. Now, there should be no such controversy again. It is not right to make such a demand from Trimbakeshwar. Both places have equal significance and spiritual greatness, but there should be no such controversy. There are these sadhu akhadas in Nashik. Bathing is also done here during the Kumbh Mela. The verdict on the such issue has been passed during the Peshwa era, the controversy should not be raised again,” he said.
