Chandigarh: The Shirom. Akali Dal has constituted a sub-committee to discuss the proposed Common Civil Code (UCC) and prepare a case for submission to the Law Commission.

The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of party’s constituency in-charges and district presidents, which was presided over by Shirom. Akali Dal President Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal. Did , In the four-member sub-committee, Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, Sardar Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Sardar Sikandar Singh Maluka and Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema have been inducted. The committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of consulting constitutional experts, intellectuals and leaders of the Sikh community.

Meanwhile, the meeting passed a resolution condemning Chief Minister Shri Bhagwant Mann for mocking and insulting the beards of Gursikhs in the Assembly and the party insisted that it was a systematic attack on the unique identity of the Khalsa Panth. In the resolution, cognizance was also taken of the fact that respected devotees of Punjab were also insulted in the Assembly and Kirt. Singhs were also insulted. The resolution also demanded that the Chief Minister apologize for insulting the dignity of Sikhs and that all such derogatory remarks be expunged from the records.

The Sikh Gurdwara (Amendment) Bill 2023 was also rejected in the meeting, stressing that it was a direct interference in the religious affairs of the Sikhs. The party said that the amendment made in the bill is illegal and unconstitutional and warned the government to refrain from inciting the sentiments of Sikhs by such interference.

 

It was also noted in the meeting that the Aam Aadmi Party is threatening the media and the efforts to suppress the voice of the fourth pillar of democracy were also condemned in the meeting. It was also felt in the meeting that some media houses themselves Aam Aadmi Party Have sold it to the government and are taking crores of rupees in advertisements. In the meeting such media houses were told that they are committing a great sin against the pious profession of journalism and insulting Punjab and Punjabis. The party said that enough is enough and the channels and newspapers which have become means of propaganda for Bhagwant Mann will be forced to mend their ways and do free and fair journalism or else the Akali Dal will boycott them. ,
