On Christmas day, Russia carried out hundreds of air strikes on Ukraine and caused widespread devastation. The Russian military launched a massive missile and drone attack on Wednesday targeting Ukraine’s electricity system. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia used more than 70 missiles and more than 100 drones in the attack.
Ukraine foiled most of the attacks

Attack on DTEK company
- Russia on Wednesday morning targeted the thermal power plant of DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private power company.
- This was the 13th attack on Ukraine’s electrical grid in 2024.
DTEK CEO’s statement
- Maxim Timchenko, CEO of DTEK, said:
“Depriving millions of peaceful people of winter electricity during the Christmas season is a diabolical and misguided act that must be responded to.”
A barrage of attacks on Kharkiv

- Regional head Oleh Sinihubov said Kharkiv was hit by at least seven attacks, which caused widespread fires across the city.
- According to local officials, three people were injured.
