Russia has added around 2,000 spaces for Indian students in its medical institutes in response to the rising demand for medical education. This action is taken at a time when Russia continues to be a prime destination for Indian students in search of quality medical education overseas.

The number of medical seats in Russian universities has increased from 8,000 to 10,000, which indicates the consistent growth in the number of Indian students studying medical courses in Russia.

Russia remains top pick for Indian medical students

This growth is a direct reflection of the increased interest from Indian students, as Consul General Valerii Khodzhaev of the Russian Federation in Chennai has indicated. He emphasised that Russian universities have had a reputation for years for having world-class medical education, which provides a rich curriculum, professional instructors, and cutting-edge infrastructure.

“Russia has been the country of choice among Indian medical education aspirants for more than 60 years now. Due to reasonable fee levels and highly acknowledged degrees internationally, it remains popular among thousands of students each year,” Khodzhaev added while participating in a conference in Chennai.

The decision to increase seats is made at a time when Russian universities are the only ones that are fully adhering to India’s new National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations for foreign medical education. This conformity with Indian regulations guarantees that Indian students can study medicine in Russia with assurance that their degrees will be accepted back home.

Russian government scholarship plans

Besides that, the government of Russia still assists Indian students with its yearly 100% scholarship plan. Each year, 200 Indian students are given the opportunity to attend the top Russian institutions for free thanks to this scholarship. These scholarships can be claimed for courses such as bachelors, master’s, specialists, and postgraduates, further placing Russia on the list of more economical alternatives among high-quality student providers.

Education fair

To help potential students, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Chennai is hosting an All-India Russian Education Fair on May 10 and 11. Tiruchirappalli, Salem, and Coimbatore will come next. The fair will provide information about different courses offered at Russian universities, including in new areas such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and data science, besides conventional medical courses.

These institutions include Volgograd State Medical University, Kazan State Medical University, and Moscow State Regional University, which will be present at the fair to allow students to learn about the variety of programs and scholarships being offered in Russia.
