Right arm medium pacer Rushil Bhrasadiya bagged 9/58 to give Rose Manor International a sniff on the opening day of the123rd Giles Shield tournament on Thursday. However, Don Bosco International School bowlers showed experience to defend the total of 167 and bundle out Rose Manor batting side for paltry 82 runs. Nivaan Doshi and Yuven Shah took three wickets apiece.
The prestigious tournament kicked off on Thursday at the iconic Parsee Gymkhana. Former India cricketer and Mumbai captain Sameer Dighe graced the occassion as Chief Guest along with Guest of Honour, Kunal Dalal- Managing Director JBCN Education. MCA Apex Council members, office bearers and Selectors also were present to showcase their support. A record 179 Teams are participating this year. SG balls will be used in the entire tournament. Participation certificates were given to the young cricketers. SG MSSA Man of the Matche vouchers will be given after every game.
In another match, Aaditya Shukla set up comprehensive 10-wicket win for Kapol Vidyanidhi International School against St. Joseph School Borivali. Shukla took 7/42 to all out St. Joseph for 85 runs and then Kapol Vidyanidhi openers chased down the target inside ten overs without any loss.
Meanwhile, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Vidyalaya’s batsmen Sanmit Kothmire 120 of 88 balls and Advait Tiwari 183 of 83 balls have produced a fine performance, notching up centuries to help his team reach a respectable total after a few early setbacks against New Horizon Scholar School in the first round of of Giles Shield at Dadar Parsee Colony, Matunga on Thursday.
In the other match at Director of Industries, Oval Maidan, Lakshadeep High School gained a sizeable team total of 330 plus runs against Pawar Public School. Mithun Raja was instrumental with bat (56 runs) and ball having taking five wickets haul and bundled out Pawar Public School to 57 runs.
