There has been a new twist in the case of alleged cash of crores of rupees from the residence of Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Verma. Atul Garg, head of the Delhi Fire Department, has clarified that no cash was received during the fire fighting campaign. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has also issued a statement and tried to put a stop to misleading information.

Supreme Court statement: no relationship between transfer and investigation

The Supreme Court in its statement made it clear that the transfer of Justice Verma has no connection with his investigation process. The apex court said that on 20 March 2025, the collegium reviewed the transfer proposal, which was part of the internal process. Justice Verma was proposed to be transferred to his original High Court Allahabad High Court, where he would be ninth in seniority.

The Supreme Court also said, “Mister information and rumors are being spread about the incident at Justice Yashwant Verma’s residence.”

Cleaning of Delhi Fire Service Head

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) chief Atul Garg reacted to the matter, saying that on the night of March 14, a fire was reported at the residence of Lutyens Verma in Delhi at 11:35 pm. Fire brigade reached the spot at 11:43 pm and overcame the fire in 15 minutes.

Garg clarified, “Our firefighters did not get any cash during the campaign. After extinguishing the fire, the police was informed and our team left from the spot.”

Media reports and preliminary investigation

Earlier, some media reports claimed that cash was recovered from Justice Verma’s residence during the fire extinguishing, after which the Supreme Court collegium started a preliminary inquiry. The reports also said that it has been decided to transfer Justice Verma from Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court. However, both the Supreme Court and the Fire Department have rejected these claims.
