News India Live, Digital Desk: Rules for Circumambulation in the Temple: The tradition of orbiting the idols of the gods in temples is very ancient. Parikrama provides positive energy of the temple and blessings of the deity. But do you know that the rules of circumambulation of different deities also vary? Let us know in detail how many times and in which direction it should be revolved.
Importance of circumambulation
According to religious belief, revolving in the correct method of the temple destroys the sins of the person and attains mental peace. The most effective way of receiving the positive energy present in the temple is considered to be the orbit.
What is the correct direction of circumambulation?
Parikrama is also called ‘Pradakshina’, which means moving from the right side. The positive energy of the idols flows from the north to the south, hence the circumambulation should always be done from the right side of the statue.
How many times should which deity be ordered?
Lord Vishnu and Shiva
- According to Narada Purana, Lord Vishnu and all his incarnations should be revolved four times.
- Only half of the Shivling should be done. Jaladhari should not cross. Parikrama is considered complete as soon as he reaches Jaladhari.
Surya Dev, Ganesh, Maa Durga and Hanumanji
- Sun God should be revolved seven times.
- Gauriputra Lord Ganesha should be revolved four times.
- All other goddesses, including Maa Durga, should be revolved only once.
- Rambhakt Hanumanji should be revolved three times.
