Rajasthan Royals’ youngsters, including stand-in captain Riyan Parag, displayed respect for Chennai Super Kings’ star MS Dhoni while shaking hands with him after the game. In a show of respect, the Royals’ players were seen taking their cap off immediately before greeting Dhoni as a video of the same surfaced on social media.
Despite his waning match-finishing abilities, the 43-year-old has earned the respect of one and all with his accolades and cricketing acumen. The Ranchi-born cricketer, who played his first-ever IPL match in Guwahati on Sunday, had an opportunity to win the game for the Super Kings. However, he was dismissed in the final over while trying to go for the big shot and the five-time champions were six runs short in pursuit of 183.

“He can’t bat 10 overs running full stick” – Stephen Fleming on MS Dhoni
Breaking his silence on Dhoni’s batting position, head coach Stephen Fleming addressed it by stating that the keeper-batter himself decides where he wishes to slot in, depending on his fitness. He said at the presser, as quoted by The Hindustan Times:
“MS judges it. His body is, his knees aren’t what they used to be. And he’s moving okay, but there’s still an attrition aspect to it. He can’t bat 10 overs running full stick. So he will gauge on the day what he can give us. If the game’s in the balance like today, he will go a little bit earlier, and he backs other players when other opportunities are up. So he’s balancing that.”
Although the Royals managed to open their account, the Super Kings slumped to their second defeat in three matches this season.
