Kedarnath Ropeway Project: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Kedarnath Ropeway project. This ropeway project will cost around Rs 4081 crore. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information.

The Union Cabinet has approved the 12.9 km long ropeway project from Sonprayag to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand under the National Ropeway Development Program’s ranges. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the biggest benefit of this project will be to the pilgrims. Currently this journey is completed in eight to nine hours, which will be completed in 36 minutes after the construction of this ropeway. It will have a seating capacity of 36 people.

The central government has approved the Kedarnath Ropeway project. This ropeway will be developed on design, construction, finance, operation and transfer (DBFOT) mode. There is a plan to develop this ropeway in public-private partnership. It is based on the most advanced tri-cable detachable Gondola (3S) technology. Its design capacity will be 1800 passenger (PPHPD) per hour per hour. Every day 18,000 pilgrims will be able to enjoy philosophy through ropeway. Its construction and operation will create employment opportunities in the tourism sector by promoting hospitality, travel, food, water and travel-related areas throughout the year.

 

The development of the ropeway project is an important step towards promoting balanced socio-economic development, increasing connectivity in mountainous regions and accelerating economic development. The journey to Kedarnath Temple is a challenging climb of 16 km from Gaurikund. Currently this journey can be done by walking, pony, palanquin or helicopter.

Kedarnath is one of the 12 holy Jyotirlingas located at an altitude of 3583 meters (11968 ft) in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. This temple is open to pilgrims from Akshaya Tritiya (April-May) to Diwali, 6 to 7 months a year. Two million pilgrims come here every year in this season.
