Team India captain Rohit Sharma’s reaction went viral after Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped a straightforward catch off Marnus Labuschagne’s bat on day four of the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The 37-year-old expressed his frustration by punching the air after the catch went down off the youngster’s hands.
The incident occurred in the 40th over of the innings sent down by Akash Deep, inducing the edge off Labuschagne’s bat when the right-hander was on 46. However, Jaiswal couldn’t hold on as he was seemingly stunned with himself. The left-handed batter had also dropped a catch earlier in the innings when Usman Khawaja was on 2. However, it didn’t prove costly as Mohammed Siraj got the better of Khawaja for 21.
Jaiswal’s third drop came against Pat Cummins, who offered a chance to the youngster at silly point off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling before tea. However, the 22-year-old could not get low on time to pluck the catch.
Team India concede 158-run lead
With India resuming day four on 358-9, all they could manage is 11 more runs to their total before Nathan Lyon got the better of Nitish Kumar Reddy for 114. It gave Australia a sizeable 105-run lead to work with.
Reddy, who scored a stunning hundred on day three, spearheaded India’s fightback as the tourists went from 153-2 to 159-5 on the previous day. Nevertheless, the 127-run partnership between Nitish Reddy and Washington Sundar brought India back into the contest when a follow-on was on the cards.
