Indian captain Rohit Sharma spoke openly about the success of Team India and the ups and downs of cricket in the last 9 months. He said that in the last three ICC tournaments, every player of Team India deserves honor. India won 23 out of 24 matches except for the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which can guess its continuity and struggle.

“A win could make us unbeatable” – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma said in a video shared on the ‘X’ page of Mumbai Indians,
“If we had won the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, it would have been unbeatable in three ICC tournaments. Winning 23 out of 24 matches is a big achievement for any team. It seems easy from outside, but this team has seen many ups and downs. We have faced difficult times, but also got opportunities to celebrate.”

India’s achievements and challenges

  • Won tournaments:

    • T20 World Cup 2024

    • ICC Champions Trophy 2025

  • Hard period:

    • Lose in Test series to New Zealand and Australia

    • Mumbai Indians perform poor performance in IPL 2024

Rohit said, “It is an inspiration for players who are going through a difficult period. Cricket and life fluctuate, but with patience and hard work we can reach the heights.”

Changes started in 2022

Rohit revealed that the change in the mentality of the team came after losing the T20 World Cup semi -final in 2022.
“We made it clear to the players what we expect from them. They were given freedom so that they could play without any fear. Some series were defeated, but we did not give up our process.”

Retirement and final goal from T20

Rohit said that the T20 World Cup 2024 was his last T20 tournament and he wanted to win it and bid farewell.
“I knew this is my last T20 World Cup, and I wanted to win it. But it would not have been possible if the whole team would not have contributed. We played like a group and every player played his role.”

Mumbai Indians and IPL 2024 struggle

On the poor performance of Mumbai Indians, Rohit said,
“IPL 2024 was the worst phase for us. We did not play our best cricket. But the real focus was on the World Cup and we knew that we have to prove ourselves there.”
