Rohit Sharma appreciated the journey of Team India, said- ‘Every player in three ICC tournaments deserves honor’

Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that his team achieved great success in the last nine months, facing the ups and downs of cricket. He insisted that every player who participated in the last three ICC tournaments has contributed significantly to the success of the team and they are entitled to honors.

Historical success of India

Team India performed tremendously in three recent ICC tournaments:

• Wins in T20 World Cup 2024

• Success in ICC Champions Trophy 2025

• 2023 ODI World Cup only defeat in finals

Rohit remembered this journey and said,

“Think if we had won that (ODI Cup 2023) too, it would have been unbeatable in three ICC tournaments. It is not an easy task to win 23 out of 24 matches!”

Foundation of Success: Changes after 2022 semi -finals

Rohit said that the change in Team India’s mindset started in 2022 after the defeat in the T20 World Cup semi -finals.

“We told the players clearly what is expected from them. We gave them freedom to play openly and made it clear what kind of performance we want from them.”

He said that the team lost some series, but they kept confidence in the process and focused on their game instead of panic.

Focus on Mumbai Indians and T20 World Cup

Rohit also mentioned the disappointing performance of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 last year. He said that when the team was going through a difficult period, he showed determination to return.

“IPL 2024 was the worst season for us, but even after that there was a lot for us – the T20 World Cup was coming and I knew it would be my last T20 World Cup. I wanted to win it.”

Rohit appreciated the team’s collective effort and said that

“It was not just my journey to me alone. The whole team played as a group and every player contributed.”

Ahead strategy

After Rohit’s statement, the discussion in the cricket world has intensified that he is moving towards the next stage of his career.
