Uproar against government policies

The live television broadcast of the parliamentary session showed Serbian opposition MPs on Tuesday throwing smoke grenade and tear gas inside Parliament to protest against government policies. After this, black and pink smoke spread throughout the Parliament. Opposition MPs were also supporting the students protesting against the government.

What issue did the opposition create a ruckus in Parliament?

Four months ago, 15 people died after the roof of a railway station collapsed in Serbia. After this, protests against the government started, which has now become the biggest threat to the government. In the legislative session, the Serbian Progressive Party -led ruling alliance approved the agenda of the session, after which some opposition leaders got up from their seats and ran towards the Speaker of Parliament. During this time there was a scuffle with security guards. During this time some opposition MPs threw the grenade and tear gas shells. During the live broadcast, black and pink smoke were seen coming out from inside the Parliament House.

Speaker Ana Branbic said 2 MPs have been injured, one of whom, Jasmina Obradic of SNS party has stroked and his condition is critical. He said in the session, “Parliament will continue to work for Serbia and protect it.” On Tuesday, Serbian Parliament was about to pass a law to increase funding for the universities of the country. Students in Serbia have been protesting since December demanding this law. The resignation of the Prime Minister of the country Milos Wuswik was also to be discussed in the Parliament, but the ruling coalition put several such issues in the agenda of the session, which made the opposition very angry.
