Palghar, Maharashtra: A traffic policeman was allegedly assaulted and had his official e-challan machine snatched by a rickshaw driver in Nalasopara West on Saturday evening. The accused driver, identified as Shavesh Ansari, has been arrested by the Nalasopara police.

According to the complaint filed by Police Constable Sagar Vishnu Eksinge (45), attached to the Virar Traffic Branch, the incident occurred around 6 pm near the railway station overbridge in Nalasopara West. The constable was on duty managing traffic congestion when he noticed Ansari illegally picking up passengers by parking his rickshaw on the road.

When Constable Eksinge asked Ansari to move his vehicle, the rickshaw driver allegedly became enraged. Ansari reportedly approached the policeman aggressively, pushed him, verbally abused him, and snatched the government-issued e-challan machine from his hand. He then fled the scene in his rickshaw.

Other rickshaw drivers present at the location attempted to stop Ansari, but he managed to escape.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against Ansari under various and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. The motive behind the assault and theft of the e-challan machine is under investigation.
