A teacher is a true friend, guide, role model and mentor of a student. The teacher is given the title of social guru. ‘Guru’ is a word of Sanskrit origin which means remover of darkness. The teacher removes the cobwebs hanging in the minds of his students. In every society and country of the world, the teacher has a special place and importance.
Behind the success of every person, there is an incomparable and unlimited contribution of his teacher. A teacher is the one who takes his student from the dark path to the light by teaching him the way of living, thinking ahead and understanding of life. A teacher makes our life rich, inspiring, great and civilized with his knowledge, experience, sanskar and high thinking.
Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on 5 September in India. Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888. In 1954, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna. The British government honoured him with the title of Sir. In 1962, the Government of India declared Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan’s birthday as Teachers’ Day. Limiting it to one day is unfair to teachers.
On this day, special programs are org.zed in schools and colleges in which teachers who have made significant contributions in raising the level of education and have achieved special achievements are specially honored. A teacher is the only one who, along with teaching his students to become good human beings, also feels happy to see them in high positions.
A teacher is a shining lamp which burns itself and gives light to its students. It is rightly said that “Guru bin gyaan nahi” i.e. if there is no Guru in our life then we cannot gain knowledge without Guru. The entire responsibility of making the society better rests on the shoulders of the teacher. So it is our duty to dedicate this day to those people who play such a big role so that we can honor and respect the teacher.
There has been a great decline in the education system in modern times. In today’s time, education has become a private property. People from big families have spread their feet in the field of education by opening private schools, colleges and universities. Due to privatization of education, poor people are deprived of providing expensive higher education to their children. In modern times, our education system is rote, cumbersome and unscientific, due to which casteism, discrimination, religious superstitions are spreading in our society. Due to this, students who obtain higher degrees do not have any special understanding of the objective conditions of society. Due to this decline in education, unemployment is increasing and teacher-student relations are also deteriorating.
Commercialization of education has hurt the respect of teachers in society. There is only one teacher in front of whom we bow our heads, but there are many other positions in the world. Today we need to understand the status, circumstances and teacher-student relationship of the teacher. Advance wishes of Teacher’s Day to all my teachers.
‘We would have gone astray if they had not shown us the path, if they had not taught us to differentiate between right and wrong.’ If such wise people had not come into our lives as teachers, we would have been nothing.’
