Pune Video: Residents of Undri Hold Silent Protest After Dentist’s Tragic Death, Demand Safer Roads |
After the death of a 34-year-old dentist in an accident in the area, the Mohammadwadi-Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF), on Saturday, organized an event which drew around 100 residents of Undri and Mohammadwadi. They came together to mourn the untimely demise of Dr Pranali Date. The residents, holding candles and placards, mourned her death in silence near Nyati Estate in Undri and stood in solidarity with the grieving family.
The residents also raised their concerns and raised awareness about the urgent need for safer roads and improved living conditions in the area.
Members of MURWDF demanded that the authorities visit the area and prepare a development plan. Undri was merged into PMC limits in 2017, almost two decades ago. Yet basic infrastructure remains a distant dream, said residents.
The residents stood along the footpath holding signs calling for PMC’s attention to the problems in the area. Candles were lit, and then two minutes of silence were observed. The silent protest lasted for about an hour.
The residents who were present expressed their determination to push for better traffic management, improved pedestrian safety measures, and awareness campaigns to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.
How did the accident happen?
Dr. Pranali Date was on her way to pick up her son from school on Jan 8 when a truck hit her two-wheeler from behind in front of a furniture shop in Kanadenagar on the road from Undri Chowk to Saswad. She fell and came under the left front wheel of the truck, police said.
