The removal of double-decker coaches from the Valsad-Mumbai Central fast passenger train has sparked outrage among daily commuters, as the train now experiences extreme overcrowding. Passengers report that the train is jam-packed, with many unable to board, leading to significant discomfort and safety concerns. The Dahanu Vaitarna Pravasi Sevabhavi Sanstha (DVPSS) has raised the issue, urging Indian Railways to reconsider its decision.

“The double-decker coaches were essential to managing the high passenger load on this route. Their removal has made travel unbearable for commuters, particularly during peak hours,” they posted on X, along with a photo of a crowded coach of Valsad-Mumbai Central passengers on Monday. The double-decker coaches of this train were replaced by the Western Railway on Sunday.

According to railway authorities, the double-decker coaches had completed their codal life. Keeping in mind the safety of passengers, the coaches were replaced. To maintain passenger convenience, four extra coaches have been added to the train to preserve its overall carrying capacity. However, regular travelers, including office-goers and students, are bearing the brunt of this decision, with some even forced to explore alternative means of transport due to the overcrowded conditions.

“Railways is forcing us to travel at the risk of our lives,” Advocate Prathamesh Prabhutendolkar posted on X on Monday.

DVPSS members has demanded the immediate reinstatement of the double-decker coaches, citing their necessity in addressing the increasing passenger volume. They appeal to railway authorities to prioritize passenger convenience and safety by restoring the removed coaches without delay.Frequent commuters hope their voices will be heard, and swift action will be taken to resolve this pressing issue.

Shreyas Save, a regular passenger, posted on X a video of passengers hanging on the footboard with the caption: “Already having a huge crowd from Dahanu to Vaitarna with no space for standing due to the single-decker 59023/24. Still, Virar boarding passengers come to this train. Can the railway take action on these commuters?”Ankit Churi, another passenger, posted on X: “Has Western Railway conducted any study before the removal of double-decker coaches? How will people board and deboard at intermediate stations from these coaches with less space and smaller doors? Kindly use double-decker coaches for both the Valsad Fast Passenger and the Flying Ranee.
