The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) will host the first ever ‘Travel Caravan’ which will travel around various ecovillages from Delhi to Pondicherry for a month. The initiative aims to allow the participants to understand the impacts of climate change.
The ReGENerative Travel Caravan is a one-of-a-kind travel experience which includes visiting diverse ecovillages and grassroot communities that are working on various aspects of regeneration. The initiative, which plans to allow people to immerse into the on-ground work at ecovillages and contribute towards them, aims at creating awareness, connect various regenerative spaces and pioneer a self-sustaining economic model for regenerative travel in India.
The caravan will travel across nine eco communities for the entire month of February. The journey, divided into three legs, will be launched from Delhi on February 1 and will end in Pondicherry on February 28. The first leg will visit various eco communities in North India including Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Udaipur, the second leg will include Indore, Mumbai and Goa, and the third leg will travel across Mangalore, Bangalore and Pondicherry.
The eco-communities also include well known ecovillages like Auroville in Pondicherry and Govardhan Ecovillage in Palghar near Mumbai. The organisation claimed that they have received more than 100 applications in the last two months. The applications include filmmakers, permaculturists, influencers, non-profits, musicians, artists, students and doctors among others.
The ReGENerative Travel Caravan is an initiative by GEN BHARAT, which works to advance earth and environmental care and protection, citizen and community participation in local decision-making, influence policy-makers, educate the public and catalyse projects that expedite the shift to sustainable, responsible and resilient lifestyles.
The Travel Caravan will also produce a travel show for over-the-top (OTT)platforms for niche audience consuming travel content. The travel show will also work on advocacy for grassroot sustainability. GEN is eyening on the increasing trend of solo travellers in India to bring like-minded people together who are looking to find a community through their solo travel.
Yogesh Suresh, one of the pioneering members of GEN Bharat, said, “Our aim is to bring together people from 20 different archetype who work in the area of regeneration. These people will travel in one bus for a month and visit various eco communities, all of which work in different fields. This will provide an opportunity for everyone to come together and look at the problem collectively while contributing on personal levels.”
