The second Test between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval produced a unique piece of history as it proved to be the shortest between the two sides in terms of the number of balls bowled. With only 1031 deliveries bowled, the fixture surpassed the one played in Indore last year.

The Indore Test between Australia and India saw only 1135 deliveries sent down between the two sides and ended in two and a half days, with the tourists winning by eight wickets. The Adelaide Test between India and Australia took only a little over two days as the hosts emerged victorious by ten wickets.

With India trailing by 29 runs heading into day three, but five wickets still remaining, Australia wasted no time in nipping them out. Mitchell Starc started it by dismissing Rishabh Pant in the first over, while Pat Cummins starred with a fifer. Scott Boland, meanwhile, finished with three wickets. Usman Khawaja hit the winning runs, with Australia requiring only 19 to win.

“There were times when we could have grabbed the opportunity but failed” – Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that it was a disappointing week for them and lauded Australia for their approach in the pink-ball Test. He stated at the post-match presentation:

“Disappointing week for us. We didn’t play well enough to win the game. Australia played better than us. There were times when we could have grabbed the opportunity but failed, which cost us the game. What we did in Perth was great but every game throws a new challenge. Looking forward to the next Test and we will see what we did well in Perth and in Brisbane too last time.”

The fourth Test between the two sides begins on December 14 in Brisbane.
