Ahead of the IPL 2025 season opener, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has stirred up some playful banter, seemingly taking a jab at Mumbai Indians (MI) and their captaincy issues. In a video posted by the franchise, influencer and RCB’s popular character Mr Nags (played by Danish Sait) couldn’t resist making a cheeky remark about MI’s captaincy drama.
Mr Nags poked fun at MI’s captaincy saga by asking RCB skipper Rajat Patidar, “So, Rajat, you became captain, and all former RCB skippers have given you their approval. Virat messaged you, Faf messaged you… Do you think other teams should’ve followed a similar strategy while announcing their captain?” Patidar replied, “I’m sorry, I never followed what’s going on and what’s not going on.” To which Mr Nags, with his trademark grin, humorously retorted, “Oh, so innocent, Rajat. You really don’t know? Really? Then why are you smiling? See, basically, he said, ‘Mai nahi Samjha ‘MI.’”
What is the Mumbai Indians captaincy controversy?
The dig from Danish Sait is a reference to MI’s controversial captaincy change in IPL 2024, when Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma. The decision was met with backlash from MI fans, who booed Pandya throughout the season.
RCB aim for a winning start in IPL 2025
RCB and MI will meet on April 7 in Mumbai in IPL 2025. Historically, Mumbai Indians have had the upper hand over RCB, winning 19 of their 33 IPL encounters. RCB play the season opener against KKR at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 22. They would ideally like to start on a winning note. It would be interesting to see the XI they field for the opener tomorrow.
