With the highly anticipated BMC elections approaching, the BJP is likely to appoint a new state president. Sources indicate that former minister Ravindra Chavan is the frontrunner for the position, with an official announcement expected in the first week of March. At present, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule holds the post. However, since his term runs until August and he has now joined the cabinet, the organisational responsibilities are expected to be assigned to a new leader.

Chavan is known as a trusted leader of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He represents the Dombivli Assembly constituency in Thane district. In the Shinde government, Chavan served as the PWD minister.

After the selection of booth, taluka and district heads, the BJP will appoint its state president. Recently, the party launched its ‘Sanghatan Parva’ campaign, entrusting Chavan with the responsibility of overseeing the campaign and serving as the state in-charge.

The BJP launched ‘Sanghatan Parva’ campaign in 2029 as part of its expansion strategy and its goal of forming a government on its own. The party’s core organisation, along with its various wings and cells, has been assigned membership targets to accelerate growth. Key units such as the Mahila Morcha, Yuva Morcha, and OBC Morcha, along with other cells and alliances, have been tasked with engaging as many people as possible through membership drives. The ‘Sanghatan Parva’ campaign, running from January 1 to January 15, aims to enroll 1.5 crore new members into the party.

The phased plan

• January 1-20: The BJP will conduct a membership drive

• January 20-28: Around five lakh active members will be mobilised

• February 1-10: Selection of 1 lakh booth heads will take place

• February 10-20: Selection of 78 taluka heads across the state

• February 20-28: Appointment of 78 district heads

• By March 15: The BJP will announce its new state president
