The court has convicted accused Sanjay Roy in the case of rape and murder of a lady doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. During the hearing, Sanjay Roy declared himself innocent and said that he has been implicated in this crime and the real culprit is still roaming free.
Forensic report proved the crime
The court convicted Roy on the basis of forensic investigation. According to reports, DNA evidence found at the scene matches Sanjay Roy. The judge commented, “Depending on the seriousness of the crime committed against the victim, you may be awarded life imprisonment or death penalty.”

Sanjay Roy has been found guilty under section 64 (rape) and section 103 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The court said that under these sections, the punishment can be 10 years’ imprisonment, 25 years’ jail, life imprisonment or death penalty.
Punishment will be announced on Monday
The court will announce the sentence after final analysis of the evidence presented by the CBI on Monday. At present, Sanjay Roy has been kept under strict surveillance in the Presidency Correctional Home.
Family and police reaction
The parents of the deceased expressed gratitude to the judge after the court’s verdict. In its charge sheet, CBI had named Sanjay Roy as the main and only accused of this heinous crime. Kolkata Police prevented the media from talking to the convict and made arrangements to take him straight from the court to jail.
