Comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent has quickly become a breeding ground for controversies, sparking outrage across social media with its unfiltered content. While the show markets itself as an edgy and unfiltered talent showcase, it has repeatedly made headlines for the wrong reasons.

From insensitive remarks on Deepika Padukone’s mental health advocacy to heated walkouts and legal complaints, India’s Got Latent has found itself embroiled in multiple controversies.

Take a look at the biggest controversies surrounding the show:

1. Ranveer Allahbadia’s indecent comment

One of the most serious controversies recently erupted when YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, aka Beer Biceps appeared on the show and asked a contestant inappropriate, incestuous questions about parental intercourse.

The panel, including Samay, Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Makhija, not only failed to condemn his remarks but even encouraged the conversation. They were then booked for ‘promoting obscenity’ and for using ‘abusive’ language.

Ranveer apologised for his remarks and stated that it was a ‘lapse in judgement’. He also pleaded people to forgive him and assured that the sections with the controversial remarks have been removed from the video.

2. Controversial joke on Deepika Padukone

Samay mocked the backlash he received after a contestant trolled Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone’s depression story. The controversial joke was made by a female contestant, Bunty Banerjee. She said, “Deepika Padukone recently became a mother, right? Great, now she knows what real depression looks like.” She continued, “I’m not trying to belittle breakup-related depression,” paused, and then added, “Actually, I am.”

Soon after the video of the act surfaced on social media, Samay and other judges were slammed for making fun of depression. “A contestant on India’s got latent trolled #DeepikaPadukone for her fake sob story which she created to defame her ex,” an X user wrote. Samay had replied, “Guys it’s not fair. You cannot outrage on twitter. Please outrage on my youtube comments section so there is some ad revenue at least.”

3. When a contestant got her dress ripped by male friend

The backlash centred around a segment involving a contestant named Priyanka Halder and her ‘costume cutter’ friend Mohammad Adil.

In the segment, Priyanka, dressed in a red bodycon dress, is seen having her dress ripped by Adil, who was trying to transform her outfit into a cut-out dress. However, things took a turn when she revealed that she is married with a 15-year-old son. Priyanka’s act drew criticism from netizens, sparking a debate about her performance.

Bharti Singh, Haarsh Limbachiyaa and Tony Kakar were present as guests during that episode.

4. FIR against show’s contestant for ‘dog meat’ joke

An FIR was filed against comedian a contestant from Arunachal Pradesh, Jessy Nabam, who joked about her state’s people. When Samay asked if she had ever eaten dog meat, she said she hadn’t but claimed that people in Arunachal do.

“I know because my friends eat it. They even eat their pets at times,” she said on stage after her performance. While the panel, including Balraj Singh Ghai, took it as a joke, Jessy insisted that it was true.

Soon after, an FIR was reportedly lodged against Jessy Nabam over her ‘derogatory’ remarks.

5. When Uorfi Javed walked out of the show

Fashionista Uorfi Javed walked out of India’s Got Latent recently after a few contestants abused her and asked her the number of men she had sex with.

Taking to her Instagram story in December 2024, Uorfi wrote, “I think I missed the memo, nowadays people think it’s cool to abuse someone or just slut shame someone for some views. I’m sorry but I’m not ok with anyone abusing me, slut shaming me for my body counts (which they don’t know but they just assumed it must be high). All this for what? For 2 mins of fame?”

Lashing out at those who abused her, Uorfi mentioned, “The guy who abused me wasn’t even joking, he got legit mad at me when I asked him why he was faking being handicapped! He just abused me on the stage in front of so many people. The next one was just trying to be cool, slut shaming me comparing me to Mia Khalifa expressing his displeasure over my high body count. I was disgusted. I should’ve said something to these men but I didn’t cause the place I was at, everyone thought this was cool. No it’s not. It’s not cool.”
