Mumbai: Arif, a furniture maker from Dadhiyal village in Rampur, died by suicide in Mumbai on Tuesday (April 15) evening. Before taking his life, he recorded two videos of himself, claiming his wife’s infidelity and accusing the local police and officials of inaction and undue hardship.
In his first video, Arif named his wife, Jeba, and her alleged lover, Qasim, as the cause of his despair. He also claimed that “fake divorce paperwork has been done and the police is not helping me,” adding, “I am not getting justice and that is why I am committing suicide.”
Despite lodging a formal complaint in Rampur and pursuing the matter in court, Arif claimed that the authorities failed to intervene, adding to his mental stress.
How Did the Incident Take Place?
The 30‑year‑old artisan, who lived in Malad Malvani with his wife and young son, ended his life around 7:00 PM, hanging himself from a tree. The Mumbai police recovered his body and sent it for post‑mortem examination after they were alerted by the passersby.
Arif’s brother, Sharif, and other family members immediately arrived in Mumbai after learning about his death. They are likely to bring the body back to Rampur by road, as per reports.
Arif had spoken with his mother on a phone call the morning he decided to take his life, giving no indication of distress. Reportedly, the Mumbai police have registered an inquiry and are currently reviewing Arif’s video statements as part of the investigation.
