Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will not attend the Victory Day celebrations of Russia to be held in Moscow on 9 May. According to sources, Rajnath Singh was to go to Russia in place of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Modi was invited to Moscow’s Victory Day celebrations, but canceled his visit after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

Now Sanjay Seth, Minister of State for Defense from India will participate in this ceremony. The event is being organized to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union victory over Germany in World War II and is considered to be the national pride of Russia, in which many world leaders and military representatives are participating.

Prime Minister Modi visited Russia twice last year.

 

Although Russian officials have not given any formal reason for canceling PM Modi’s visit, it is believed that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the security situation in India. Prime Minister Modi visited Russia twice last year, once for the annual summit with President Vladimir Putin and for the second time to attend the BRICS summit in Kazan.

President Putin may come to India this year

President Putin can visit India this year, where the annual summit between the two countries is proposed. Putin recently condemned the Pahalgam attack, calling it a cruel crime and reiterated his stand with India in the fight against terrorism.

After the attack, Prime Minister Modi has warned terrorists and his supporters to find “until the end of the world”. In a high level security meeting held on Tuesday, he also directed the armed forces to give complete freedom of action. Pakistan has expressed apprehension of possible military action from India.
