Superstar Rajinikanth was spotted at Chennai airport on Tuesday (January 7) before he jetted off to Thailand to complete the shoot of his upcoming film, Coolie. At the airport, he was surrounded by reporters who asked him about women’s safety in Tamil Nadu. This comes shortly after the sexual assault of a 19-year-old student at Chennai’s Anna University.

Several videos of the actor have been doing the rounds on social media in which he is heard telling the media persons not to ask him ‘political’ questions. Rajinikanth, who is usually known for his calm nature, is grabbing eyeballs for his stern reply.

It may be noted that he answered questions about his acting projects. However, when a reporter asked him about women’s safety in the state, he replied, “Don’t ask me political questions.”

Rajinikanth has time and again asked media persons not to ask him questions related to politics, despite entering politics for a brief period of time.

TN sexual assault case

A 19-year-old engineering student was sexually assaulted on the campus of Anna University in December 2024. According to her complaint, the accused, 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, dragged her into nearby shrubs and assaulted her.

This shocking incident at one of Tamil Nadu’s most prestigious colleges has sparked widespread outrage. It has also raised questions on women’s safety.

Rajinikanth’s upcoming project

The superstar was earlier shooting for Coolie in Visakhapatnam. Besides Rajinikanth, the film also stars Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir as Dayal, Shruti Haasan as Preethi, Sathyaraj as Rajasekar, and Upendra as Kaleesha. In the film, Rajinikanth will portray the role of Deva.

Coolie went on floors in Hyderabad in July 2024, and the team began shoot in Chennai in August 2024. It is expected to hit the screens in 2025.

Rajinikanth was last seen in the Tamil film Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel. The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh, Manju Warrier and Dushara Vijayan.
