Jaipur: With targeted implementation of 102 government schemes for below poverty line (BPL) families and spending Rs 1 lakh each on such families, the Rajasthan government has launched a mega poverty eradication scheme.
Named as Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Garibi Mukt Gaon Yojana, the scheme has been implemented for 5000 villages in the first phase with a budget allocation of Rs 300 for FY 2025-26.
As per the announcement made by the Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma in Rajasthan Vidhansabha, the said scheme has been launched from April 1st.
“The survey to identify villages and families for the scheme will be completed by the District Collectors in April itself. The objective of the scheme is to make BPL families financially self-reliant with targeted implementation of government schemes, especially of financial inclusion, livelihood and skill development,” said Omkareshwar Sharma, Project Director and ex-officio Deputy Secretary of the Rural Development department.
According to the BPL census of 2002, there are about 22 lakh families living below the poverty line in the state. The state government will bring these families above poverty line with targeted implementation of 14 government schemes of livelihood generation and employment, 16 of women empowerment, 13 of financial inclusion and 49 social security schemes.
Under this scheme, the state government will spend Rs one lakh each on the BPL families of the identified villages and connect them with various schemes of self-employment and livelihood earning. Women associated with self-help groups of such families will be given working capital of up to Rs 15000 rupees, to make the families financially self-reliant by doing some employment of their own.
Apart from this, these families will be linked on priority with schemes like Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Gas Yojana, scholarships for children’s education etc.
Sharma said that an impact study of the scheme will be done every three months to capture the change in their lives and what’s more need to be done.
“The families who come above the poverty line (APL) by fulfilling 15 social and economic parameters set for BPL families will be given Aatmanirbhar Parivar Card by the government along with Rs 21000 as incentive. However, they will continue to get the benefits of the government schemes even if they become APL,” said Sharma.
