Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has made approval of Superintendent of Police (SP) mandatory for arrest of doctors.

The SOP issued by the state government regarding this provides that despite a case being registered against the doctors, the concerned police station will have to take approval from an SP level officer for the arrest.

The decision has been taken in wake of the cases registered against the doctors for negligence in treatment by the relatives of the patients.

“Quite often, the relatives of the patient register criminal cases against the medical personnel on the basis of incomplete information. In such a situation, doctors suffer mental harassment, which has a negative impact on their work capacity and reputation,” said the SOP adding that if gross medical negligence is found in the treatment of a doctor, and it is necessary to arrest him, then the concerned police station will have to take approval from the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police.

It has also been said in the SOP that the concerned police station will have to monitor the security arrangements by regular patrolling of the hospital. If any violence takes place against doctors in a hospital, then action will have to be taken against the accused within 6 hours of the information given by the nodal officer of the hospital.

The SOP provides for the videography of the postmortem in case the patient died due to negligence of doctors during treatment and its report registered in the police station.
