Mumbai: Amid the ongoing Hindi imposition row, Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray hinted at working togther in for the ‘betterment of Maharashtra’.

In a podcast with Veteran actor Mahesh Manjrekar, Raj highlighted that their personal disputes are insignificant compared to the more significant issues surrounding Marathi identity. Raj Thackeray emphasised the need for unity among Marathi people across political lines. Responding to his cousin’s statement, Uddhav Thackeray responded positively. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief insisted that clarity on the objectives of any alliance is crucial, also emphasizing the need for consistency in opposition to the BJP.

In reply to Manjrekar’s question about the possibility of both Thackeray brothers uniting, Raj stated, “For me, the welfare of Maharashtra is paramount, and everything else comes after that. I can overlook minor disagreements and am willing to collaborate with Uddhav. The only question is whether he is willing to do the same.”

In response, Uddhav Thackeray remarked, “I am also prepared to put aside minor disagreements for the sake of the Marathi language and Maharashtra. I am open to working together, but he (Raj) must no longer support anti-Maharashtra individuals and parties, and he should take an oath in front of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.”

Sanjay Raut, from Shiv Sena (UBT), acknowledged Raj’s intent to prioritize Maharashtra, though he noted Uddhav’s hesitance to align with perceived adversaries. The history between the two stems from Raj’s feeling of being sidelined in Shiv Sena.

As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approach, Raj has signaled support for the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance. Although MNS has not won seats recently, it remains influential in Maharashtra politics.

The observed camaraderie between Raj and Uddhav at a wedding hints at a potential reconciliation, with Raj affirming a commitment to elevate Maharashtra’s interests above personal rivalries, contingent on Uddhav’s willingness to cooperate and distance from anti-Maharashtra elements.
