Cyclone Forecast: There is a possibility of cyclonic storm formation in the Bay of Bengal. Due to this, a warning of torrential rain has been issued in some states of South India. The name of this storm will be Fengal. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), an upper air cyclonic circulation has been observed over the equatorial Indian Ocean near the Sumatra coast and adjacent South Andaman Sea. This system may turn into a low pressure area by November 23, after which it is likely to intensify further. There may be torrential rains in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh etc. in the coming days.
This system is likely to move in the west-northwest direction. It may have a significant impact on Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, causing heavy rainfall and rough sea conditions. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert on November 26, warning of very heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. During this period, there is a possibility of rainfall between 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm.
If this low pressure area turns into a cyclonic storm then it will be named Fengal. Saudi Arabia will give this name. Some time ago, Cyclone Dana also occurred, which caused severe devastation. Fengal is going to be the second cyclone of this season. Meteorologists are still studying its exact path, but it is believed that it may cross the Chennai coast.
According to the Meteorological Department, “Today, on November 21, 2024, at 0830 am Indian time, an upper air cyclonic circulation has formed in the lower tropospheric level of the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjacent South Andaman Sea off the Sumatra coast. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over south-east Bay of Bengal around November 23. Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over central parts of South Bay of Bengal during next two days.”
