As the IPL 2025 encounter between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans unfolds at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6, a new concern has emerged—rain. Heavy showers have been reported in Kandivali, a Mumbai suburb not far from the stadium, raising worries about a possible interruption in the high-stakes match.

The match began on time at 7:30 PM, with Mumbai Indians posting a competitive total of 155/8 in their 20 overs. Will Jacks led the charge with a well-paced 53 off 35 balls, laced with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Suryakumar Yadav added momentum with a quick 35 off 24 deliveries, hitting 5 boundaries. Gujarat Titans’ left-arm spinner R. Sai Kishore stood out with the ball, picking up 2 wickets for 34 runs, keeping the scoring rate in check during the middle overs.

In reply, Gujarat Titans stumbled early in the chase. Opener Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for just 5 runs, caught off the bowling of Trent Boult, leaving the Titans at 9/1 when weather concerns started to hover.

Though the rain hasn’t been heavy enough yet to waterlog the pitch, the ground crew is fully prepared, lining the boundary with covers and ready to shield the pitch and outfield at a moment’s notice.

With rain now hitting Kandivali and clouds looming over South Mumbai, fans and players alike are keeping a close eye on the skies. While Wankhede is equipped with advanced drainage systems and a quick-response ground staff, persistent rain could lead to delays or even a reduction in overs.
