Mumbai – The number of accidents has increased due to the increasing crowd in suburban local trains on Western Railway. It has been revealed that 39 people have died in the railway accidents between Meera Road and Vaitarana station in the last four months.

The 31 km long railway line from Meera Road to Vaitaran comes under the jurisdiction of Vasai railway police station. It consists of seven stations. The number of passengers traveling from all these stations has increased in the last few years. Especially the number of passengers traveling towards Mumbai is more than Virar, Nalasopara, Vasai and Naigaon stations. Due to the increasing number of tourists, some passengers are traveling by hanging in local trains. Therefore, the risk of falling due to deteriorating balance is high. Many times there have been accidents due to collision between local trains and fast -moving express trains, when people cross the rail tracks to catch the train coming early in the morning.

Railway police said 39 passengers died between Meera Road and Vaitaran stations during a period of four months from January to April. Most of the deaths occurred due to falling from the moving train or falling into its grip. In addition, accidents occur at some places when garbage collecting people run on the tracks to collect these bottles.

Sometimes since such local trains run continuously at the same time, other local trains do not reach on time. Due to this, there are such incidents gradually increasing the crowd on the platform, which makes it difficult to travel by train. In this regard, Senior Police Inspector of Vasai Railway Police Station Bhagwan Dange said, ‘Accidents are happening within the boundary of Vasai railway police station. Initiatives are being implemented to create awareness among passengers to reduce railway accidents. Apart from this, patrolling is also being continued for security purposes.

Arrangements like foot bridges, escalators, security nets and subway have been made for passengers to control accidents on the railway. However, some passengers try to cross the railway tracks. Some people jump directly to the net and accidents are happening due to negligence, such as getting stuck in a moving train. The railway police has appealed to the passengers not to put their lives at risk and do not travel.

Due to the increasing crowd, incidents of snatching mobile phones are coming out from the pockets of people traveling in trains. So far, a report of 160 mobile phones stolen has been filed in the police station.
