Mumbai: In a prompt response to a cyber fraud case, the 1930 Cyber Helpline of Mumbai Police successfully averted a financial loss of ₹11.19 crore.

According to DCP Datta Nalawade Said, At approximately 1:30 PM, a complainant from Powai, Mumbai, reached out to the helpline after discovering that an unknown individual had hacked the email account associated with their company’s bank account.

The cybercriminal then impersonated the company and sent a fraudulent email to Kotak Mahindra Bank, instructing them to transfer a total of ₹11 Crore 34 lakhs 85 thousand 258 across two different accounts under the guise of business transactions.

Realizing the fraud, the complainant immediately reported the issue to the 1930 Cyber Helpline. Mumbai Police officers police inspector Nivrutti Bawaskar, Assistant Police Inspector Nagral, Police Sub inspector Rawool, and Police Sub Inspector Kakad acted swiftly by registering the complaint on the NCCRP portal and coordinating with the bank. Their timely intervention led to the freezing of ₹11,19,50,501/- (₹11.19 crore) in the fraudulent accounts, thereby preventing further financial loss.
